Alex Nguepi, an activist in the Social Democratic Front (SDF), called on Cameroon's opposition parties to prepare to win a majority in the National Assembly, in a statement published on 14 October 2026.

Nguepi named the MRC, the SDF, the PCRN, the UDC, the MRN and the PSG among the parties that should put aside their particular interests. He wrote that their objective should be to build a coalition strong enough to obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly, pass laws favourable to the people and create the conditions for a political transition. Legislative and municipal elections are due in 2027.

In a separate statement on 14 October 2026, Nguepi criticised the MRC for taking the journalist Henri Ulrich Ngoko Kamgang to court over remarks made by a panellist. He called on journalists to refuse the action and said a political party, as a public actor, must show the highest tolerance of criticism. He described the move as an authoritarian drift.

Nguepi said he was speaking as an SDF activist and that he did not consider other opposition parties enemies. The MRC did not respond to his statements, and the grounds of its legal action against Ngoko Kamgang were not stated. The 2027 elections will test whether the parties Nguepi named can agree on a common strategy.
