Lieutenant-Colonel Parfait Ayissi Nanga returned to the stand at the Yaounde military court, where the defence and civil parties contested his account of how the journalist Martinez Zogo died. The court set the case for 16 and 17 November 2026.
Lieutenant-Colonel Parfait Ayissi Nanga told the military tribunal in Yaounde that the first investigation into Martinez Zogo's death served political interests and that he has been threatened, including an alleged attempt on his life in Ebolowa in August 2026.
Léopold Maxime Eko Eko, a former intelligence chief accused in the Martinez Zogo case, pressed a defence ministry investigator on 26 October 2026 over what he called inconsistencies in the inquiry, including political rivalries at the top of the state.
Lieutenant-colonel Parfait Ayissi Nanga, detained on Saturday 17 October 2026, was freed and is due to be presented to the Commissaire du gouvernement, which will decide whether he is charged or can testify in the Martinez Zogo case.
The counter-interrogation of Lieutenant-Colonel Dieudonne Bialo did not go ahead after the prosecution produced a mission order. Defence lawyers called the postponement a delaying tactic.
