The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, announced that electricity supply could be interrupted in the Centre, South and East regions on 4 November 2026 between about 15:00 and 21:00, during technical checks on production installations connected to the Southern Interconnected Grid.
A communique signed in Yaounde on 3 November 2026, numbered 000142/IC/26/MINEE/CAB, states that the operations are routine verifications intended to ensure the production installations function correctly. The minister said there was no incident and no production shortfall, and that the checks are meant to secure supply over the longer term.
The Southern Interconnected Grid is the largest in the country and supplies six of Cameroon's 10 regions. The communique names the Centre, South and East as the regions where supply could be affected. It does not specify which localities will lose power or for how long, and says only that interruptions may be momentary during the six-hour window.
Teams from Sonatrel, which operates the transmission network, and Socadel, which handles distribution, are mobilised to shorten the interventions and restore service once the tests end, the minister said. He asked households and businesses to make arrangements and thanked users for their patience.
The announcement gives users a day's notice of a planned interruption on the grid that serves the capital, Yaounde.
