The Bank of Central African States has started withdrawing five old coin series, and traders in Yaounde are already turning them away. Holders have until 31 October 2027 to exchange them.
The Bank of Central African States says coins from five older series will no longer be accepted from 1 November 2026, while the 2006 and 2024 series remain valid. Traders in Yaounde and Douala have been refusing coins that still count.
The Bank of Central African States will stop exchanging coins issued between 1958 and 1985 after 31 October 2027, with a two-phase procedure starting on 1 November 2026.
