Savannah Energy signed a Joint Development Agreement with the Cameroonian state in October 2026 to develop the Bini à Warak hydro-solar project in the Adamaoua region, the British group said in an operational and financial update published on 30 October 2026. The company said the agreement sets the framework for its collaboration with the government on the plant, which it describes as having a announced capacity of 95 MW.
The government's medium-term economic and budget programming document for 2027-2029 puts the project at 393 billion XAF and gives a capacity of 90 MW. The two figures differ; the documents seen do not explain the gap.
The project follows a memorandum of understanding the government and Savannah Energy RCM Limited signed on 20 April 2023. Savannah now plans a combined hydroelectric and solar photovoltaic installation, with 40 MW of solar capacity. The government had awarded Sinohydro Corporation Limited a 75 MW hydroelectric contract on 7 February 2013; the suspension of its financing in 2019 stopped that work.
Savannah Energy did not state the updated investment cost, the financing secured or the terms for selling the electricity. It gave no new date for financial close or the start of construction. The government now schedules work on the project for 2029 to 2033.
