Political scientist Stephane Menounaga said the sub-prefect of Yaounde IV could still ban the Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun convention scheduled for 17 October 2026 in Yaounde, because the administrative authority alone assesses the risk of public disorder.

Speaking on Canal 2 International on 11 October, Menounaga said remarks by people close to the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) about MRC leader Maurice Kamto suggested the convention could be blocked. "I would not be surprised if the sub-prefect bans the MRC convention, because he alone assesses the risk of public disorder," he said.

Willy Mengue, a member the party says it expelled, and Cyrille Edou, who describes himself as a member of the Sangmelima communal federation, have asked the sub-prefect of Yaounde IV to withdraw the receipt authorizing the meeting, citing internal tensions and pending court cases.

The MRC said in a statement that it declared the convention on 23 September and received the receipt on 28 September under the 1990 law on public meetings. It called on members to remain calm and ensure the convention proceeds.

The convention is called to elect a president in place of Maurice Kamto, who resigned. Tiriane Balbine Noah and Pierre Emmanuel Binyam are the candidates.
