President Paul Biya appointed Azebaze Jiofack William director general of the Road Fund by decree signed on 5 November 2026, the presidency announced. The decree, No. 2026/343, gives him charge of the agency that finances and pays private companies directly for routine and periodic road maintenance and priority urban roads.

Azebaze Jiofack William replaces Aubin Essaie Moussa as head of the institution. He was appointed attache at the Secretariat General of the presidency in August 2022, a post he held before this appointment.

The Road Fund was created in 1996 and reorganised by decree No. 2025/293 on 10 July 2025, which placed it under the financial oversight of the Ministry of Finance and the technical oversight of the Ministry of Public Works. The 2025 reorganisation created a director general post with strengthened powers.

The appointment comes as the agency faces accusations of misappropriation of nearly 1 billion XAF, with a senior official, Hippolythe Minkeng Mboua, sought by authorities. In November 2025, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute ordered a global audit and a freeze on recruitment at the fund. The new director general takes over an agency under scrutiny over its management of public road maintenance funds.
