Home Policy Cameroon signs agreement to keep CRTV channels free on private TV bouquets

The Ministry of Communication, the Conseil national de la communication, state broadcaster CRTV and five private television distributors signed a protocol in Yaounde on 4 November 2026 to keep CRTV Premium and CRTV News in their bouquets at no extra cost to subscribers, the ministry said.

The distributors named as signatories are Canal+ Cameroun, StarTimes Cameroun, SWECOM PLC, Creolink Communications and TVCAM SARL. The protocol sets a two-month implementation period, and a monitoring committee will be set up in the coming days to assess the transition and produce a first report, according to the ministry.

The agreement follows demands from consumer rights associations for cheaper access to the public channels. The text of the protocol has not been published, and it is not clear what penalties apply if a distributor drops a public channel or who would enforce the arrangement.

The measure covers CRTV Premium and CRTV News. Subscribers will be able to keep watching both channels after their commercial package expires, without an additional bill, the ministry said.
