General Saly Mohamadou, chief of staff of the Cameroonian army, asked Britain for support in operations against armed groups at a meeting with Brigadier Anthony Harper at army headquarters in Yaounde on 3 November 2026, the army said.

Saly told Harper that the threats were concentrated in the Far North, North-West and South-West regions and that they were changing, according to the army. He said Cameroon counted on Britain, which he described as a long-standing partner, to help in the fight.

Harper said he was working to mobilise more resources for his area of responsibility. Training for soldiers from several countries, including Cameroon, is under way or being prepared, he said, with a focus on countering improvised explosive devices and drones. He praised the courage of Cameroonian defence forces.

The meeting did not produce a stated commitment from Britain on the support Cameroon requested, and no follow-up visit or agreement was announced. Cameroon's army has fought Boko Haram in the Far North since 2014 and separatist groups in the two Anglophone regions since 2017.
