DAHI MOTORS Cameroun and a Thai automotive group signed a memorandum of understanding in Yaounde for the construction of a vehicle assembly plant in Cameroon, the company said. The ceremony took place under the oversight of the Ministry of External Relations, represented by Roméo Ngah, and the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, represented by its director of planning, Nana, with the managing director of DAHI MOTORS present.
The ministry said the agreement covers industrial cooperation between Cameroonian and Thai operators. The identity of the Thai group, the site of the plant, the amount of the investment, the production capacity and the execution timetable were not stated at the signing.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding formalises an intention. It does not mark the start of construction or the beginning of production, and the employment and skills transfer figures have not been given.
What the project delivers for Cameroon will depend on the financing arrangements, the technical specifications and the schedule, none of which have been set out.
