The Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun said its extraordinary convention will go ahead in Yaounde on 17 October, and that it has completed the administrative formalities required to hold it. The party made the statement in a communique signed on 8 October by Justin Roger Noah, its first deputy secretary general and interim communications officer.

The party also called on its members to stay calm, saying it had noted calls on social media and in radio and television broadcasts for the meeting to be banned.

A party member wrote to the sub-prefect of Yaounde IV district in a letter dated 7 October asking the administration to block the convention. The member cited article 17 of the party statutes, which provides for an ordinary convention every five years, convened by the national president or at the request of two thirds of the National Council, and article 68 of the internal rules, which sets out how a convention is convened if the national president resigns or is unable to serve. The member said the required deadlines and procedures were not followed, and pointed to internal tensions. The member also said Maurice Kamto resigned as national president on 25 June 2025.

The convention is due to decide the party's leadership, with Pierre Emmanuel Binyam among those seeking the presidency.
