Willy Mengue lodged a contentious appeal before the president of the Centre Administrative Court on 14 October 2026 asking the court to suspend the effects of receipt 00332/RDMP/J06.04/SP, which the sub-prefect of Yaounde IV issued on 28 September 2026 and which authorises the MRC's extraordinary convention at its Odza headquarters in Yaounde on 17 October 2026. He informed the sub-prefect of the filing in a letter dated 14 October 2026.
The appeal follows a prior administrative request Mengue made to the sub-prefect on 9 October 2026 asking him to withdraw the same receipt. In his argument, Mengue holds that the MRC officials who convened the convention lacked the standing to do so. He says his exclusion from the party has no legal effect because, he argues, it was pronounced by a leadership he describes as a "direction de fait" without the authority to take such a decision.
The MRC is proceeding with preparations for the convention, called to elect a president in place of Maurice Kamto, who resigned. Tiriane Noah and Pierre Emmanuel Binyam are the two candidates in the race, and both are campaigning among the delegates who will vote.
Whether the court rules before 17 October 2026 will determine if the convention goes ahead as scheduled.
