Finance Minister Louis Paul Motaze met Vera Songwe in Bangkok on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the ministry's account of the meeting placed the encounter during the institutions' October 2026 gatherings.
Songwe founded and chairs the Liquidity and Sustainability Facility, a mechanism she describes as aimed at improving liquidity in bonds issued by African governments and companies so that borrowing becomes cheaper. She is a former executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, where her work focused on access to financing for African countries and on the cost of borrowing.
The finance ministry said the meeting formed part of Cameroon's search for financial partnerships and for resources to support its development projects, and that it continues to explore financing opportunities. Neither Motaze nor Songwe announced a specific facility, sum or agreement after the meeting.
The annual meetings bring finance ministers and central bank governors together with private lenders and development institutions, and a meeting on their sidelines is a conversation rather than a commitment until a document is signed.
