President Paul Biya sent a message of condolences to Senegal's president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on 9 October following the death of the writer and former Senegalese minister Cheikh Hamidou Kane, the presidency said.

Kane died in Dakar on 3 October at the age of 98. In the telegram, Biya paid tribute to "cet eminent Africain, qui aura marque son temps et laisse a la posterite des oeuvres litteraires memorables", and said his cultural legacy should be preserved so that younger generations keep drawing on it. Kane was the author of the 1961 novel L'Aventure ambigue and had held several ministerial posts in Senegal and responsibilities at Unicef.

Clément Atangana, the first president of Cameroon's Constitutional Council, died in Paris on 4 October at the age of 85, five days before the telegram to Dakar. Biya appointed Atangana to the council on 7 February 2018, and the institution proclaimed Biya's victories in the 2018 and 2025 presidential elections under his presidency. No public message of condolence from Biya on Atangana's death has been identified.
